As we step into the ever-evolving landscape of user experience (UX) design, it becomes crucial to anticipate the trends that will shape the industry in 2024. With technology advancing at an unprecedented pace, the user's expectations and preferences are sure to undergo significant transformations. In this exploration of UX design trends for the upcoming year, we delve into the innovative approaches, emerging technologies, and evolving user behaviors that are set to redefine the way we create digital experiences. Join us on this journey to proactively discover the trends that will shape the future of UX design in 2024.

3D Web Designs

While three-dimensional (3D) design has a longstanding presence, the year 2024 is expected to witness a resurgence and advancement of this UX design trend. Anticipated developments include the introduction of enhanced design tools that facilitate the creation of 3D designs, catering to both novice and seasoned designers. Furthermore, emerging UX design tools are poised to simplify the generation of 3D designs, empowering UX designers to elevate their application or website designs to unprecedented levels of sophistication.

We also anticipate that, with recent improvements to 3D optimisation, integrations and the increased accessibility of more performant hardware, we will begin to see 3D becoming a prevalent feature on more websites, apps and especially e-commerce stores. Platforms such as VectarySpline, and Womp 3D are already encouraging web designers from across the globe to merge 3D experiences into their projects. Tecbot has proudly been an early adopter of these technologies, building some of the first 3D-capable websites in South Africa.

Dark Mode

Dark mode entails the predominant utilization of a dark color scheme in user interfaces, employing black or muted hues for the background while accentuating foreground details with lighter colors. This deliberate design choice is oriented towards alleviating user stress during extended screen exposure. In contrast to light mode, which reflects light, dark mode strategically employs black to minimize reflections and enhance overall readability.

While not a recent trend, prominent brands such as Apple, YouTube, and Google have long provided users with the option to switch to dark mode. Notably, dark mode is progressively evolving into a default preference within the realm of UX design.

Glassmorphism

This design concept derives inspiration from frosted glass, seamlessly integrating elements that evoke a perception of depth, transparency, and the aesthetic qualities associated with frosted glass into digital interfaces. This transformative effect finds versatile application across a spectrum of UI (User Interface) and VI (Visual Identity) elements, including but not limited to cards, modals, and navigation panes.

Despite the fact that this design trend has been a presence for an extended period, it remains far from outdated. Analogous to the cyclical nature observed in the fashion industry, design trends experience periodic shifts and adaptations. Each cycle brings forth an evolution, adjusting to our evolving tastes and preferences. In essence, this perpetual renewal ensures that the trend retains its relevance and appeal over time.

Data Visualisation

Data Visualization is the practice of presenting information visually, creating a narrative for the user through a well-structured composition. This emerging trend is poised to become an integral and anticipated component of the user experience, enhancing user interaction with products and cultivating a more trusting relationship between users and the products they engage with.

Historically, data presentation relied on generic formats such as pie charts and graphs. However, the current paradigm emphasizes the need for data to communicate effectively with the user. In this evolving landscape, applications and websites are anticipated to employ creative and personalized approaches to make data more engaging and visually appealing. This shift underscores a commitment to valuing the user, with a concurrent emphasis on contemporary aesthetics.

As we navigate the dynamic realm of design, the trends of 2024 invite us to embrace a harmonious blend of creativity, functionality, and user well-being in shaping the digital experiences of tomorrow. We, at Tecbot, cannot wait to embrace these new trends in our work!
